Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have a gynecological check-up?

We recommend a routine gynecological check-up once a year even without complaints. This visit combines examination, ultrasound and age-appropriate screening tests (smear, HPV); many conditions can be caught early before causing symptoms.

When and how often should a Pap smear be done?

Cervical cancer screening usually starts at age 21. After 30, when combined with HPV testing, repeating it every 5 years is sufficient. The test is a painless procedure that takes only a few seconds.

Can polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) be treated?

PCOS is a chronic but manageable condition. Treatment is tailored to the patient's goal: lifestyle changes and medication for cycle regulation and acne/hirsutism; ovulation induction and, if needed, IVF are successfully used when pregnancy is desired.

When does menstrual irregularity require seeing a doctor?

Cycles longer than 35 days or shorter than 21 days, bleeding lasting more than 7 days, very heavy flow, spotting between periods or a sudden change in pattern should always be evaluated. These findings can point to causes ranging from hormonal disorders to polyps and fibroids.

Up to what age can the HPV vaccine be given?

The HPV vaccine is ideally given between ages 9-14, but can be administered up to age 45. Even after sexual activity has begun, the vaccine protects against HPV types the person has not yet encountered. The decision is made together based on age, HPV status and individual risk factors.

Do fibroids always require surgery?

No. Small, asymptomatic fibroids can be monitored with regular ultrasound. The decision for surgery depends on the fibroid's size, location (especially whether it distorts the uterine cavity), bleeding and pain symptoms, and pregnancy plans. When needed, most fibroids can be removed minimally invasively (laparoscopy or hysteroscopy).
